Description of Project
During January 2012, the group from MIT D-Lab will work with FLIFLY on projects that support sustainable agriculture and help farmers improve their income. First project is Sustainable Agriculture Communities (SACs). The SACs project will help farmers save money by using composting techniques to make fertilizer for crops. The fertilizers can replace expensive chemical fertilizers and will save the farmer money. Second project is the Village Clean Energy Program (VCEP), a new program for making biogas cooking ovens. Third project is the Village Entrepreneurs Program (VEP) that is program to support members of SACs and CUs to be village entrepreneurs that are selected by FLIFLY for fund raising online through http://d-lab.mit.edu/ and http://www.flifly.org.kh/ and other websites.
Alice Hartley, student at MIT Sloan School, will help the D-Lab team when working with FLIFLY. Alice will be able to help FLIFLY provide services to Cambodian farmers and entrepreneurs. The entrepreneurs need technical and investment support from FLIFLY in order to start and run small businesses with their crops. Alice has experience with composting, waste recycling, and biogas digesters. She has also visited Cambodia before in 2007. FLIFLY is happy to welcome Alice on the project as part of the team.
